About the artist
My first memory is of my third birthday party when my grandparents gifted me my first set of art supplies.
I knew right then I was born to be an artist.
Throughout my entire childhood, I exploded with creativity.
I won an art and writing contest in first grade, comparing modern restrooms to outhouses.
The sole reason I chose this topic is that I loved to draw wallpaper.
In fifth grade, I drew a life-sized cutout of the cover image from Henry and the Paper Route by Beverly Cleary for National Reading Month. I was so proud of that door!
The same year, I adapted my first short story into a play called “Perfect Pancakes,” which was requested by my teacher.
Being a small-town girl (only 20 students in my whole grade), there weren't many opportunities to pursue art in school. But when there were, I took advantage of them.
I joined the after-school art club. I took art in high school when it was available.
And when it came time to go to college, my parents thought majoring in art was a waste of time.
I listened to them and pursued my other passion: writing.
It was a path that served me well...
But at the back of my mind, I always thought "what if?"
What about art?
I'm learning the drive to create will never die.
And I don't want to spend a lifetime wondering "what if."
So welcome to my little art corner of the world, where I am here to stop wondering and keep painting!
Thank you for being here!
